Capability Architecture Framework Definition

The Functional Directions Capability Architecture Framework extends the traditional architecture concepts beyond the two disjoint models of an Enterprise Architecture with a third model that defines the engineering processes of the systems lifecycle. Our CAF consists of:

Operational Domain

The Operational Domain contains a model that depicts the abstract operational, or business needs of the capability

System Domain

The System Domain contains a model of the concrete systems of the implementation

Program Domain

The Program Domain contains a model of the abstract processes of the system lifecycle

Systems Engineering Expertise

Functional Directions brings over 30 years' experience in defining and applying the principles of systems engineering for a diverse range of military, civil and commercial development projects

Operational or Business Needs Analysis

We understand the value of establishing a formal definition of the operational needs of an organisation prior to embarking on the implementation stage of the system lifecycle.

Systems Design

We bring an extensive knowledge of modern implementation technologies with extensive specialist knowledge in Combat System and the Intelligent Transport Systems design

Systems Engineering Process Definition

Our proprietary generic program domain model integrates the principles and processes of IEEE-15288 with the concepts of systems theory to realise a full cradle to grave definition of the full system lifecycle. This program domain model is suitable for tailoring to meet the needs of any organisation
